This series consists of the letterpress copybooks created by the Commissioner of Agriculture (1883-1901) and the Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries (1901-1923). The letterpress copybooks (letters sent) trace the daily activities of this state agent, including the interaction of the commissioner with Ala.'s agricultural schools, the payment of license fees, seed appropriations, and copies of receipts. The letters reflect the governor's and the legislature's involvement in appropriating funds to purchase seeds. Some of the letterpress copybooks contain indexes to the names of the correspondents.
